A firenzei lila-fehér klubot 1926-ban alapították, eddig két alkalommal nyerték meg a bajnokságot, és hatszor az Olasz Kupát, illetve 1961-ben megnyerték a Kupagyőztesek Európa Kupáját is, az oda-visszavágós döntőben a skót Rangerst győzték le, összesítésben 5-4-re.
